Unlocking the Door to Joy

Written by: Pastor Andrew Starr

Imagine with me, that there is a door in your house that you have never been in. Inside that door, you are told, is a wonderful treasure. This treasure everyone is seeking after, yet not many realize what they are looking for is behind that locked door. The treasure behind the door is joy. There is a key that opens that door and it is in your possession. But up until this point, you have not used the key to unlock the door. "Maybe there is another way to enjoy that treasure other than unlocking the door," you think to yourself. You try going through the window but to no avail, that did not work. You try peeking through the lock on the door but still, no luck. You are so close to the treasure inside that room, but the only way in is through the key in your hand.

Regardless of what the world says will bring true joy and happiness, there is a part of them that is still unfulfilled and unsatisfied. This leads them to an empty life. King David gives us the key to a true joy that brings true satisfaction. Do not fall into the trap of following the ways of the world to find joy.

Here is the key: Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

True satisfying joy in life comes when you decide to be in the presence of your Savior.

Teenagers today are looking for joy and pleasure in life...but let me let you in on a secret: its not found in the world. Oh the world may be fun for a while, but it does not bring true satisfaction. It will leave you empty in the end. The world will try to show you that possessions, alcohol, drugs, smoking, gambling and physical relationships outside of marriage bring so much joy...but what they leave out is that it leaves you empty and unsatisfied in the end.

To have true joy and pleasure in life you must commit to being in the presence of God.

How is your joy in life? Do you feel unsatisfied? If you do, chances are your time in the presence of God is lacking. The key to joy in life should be right in your hand. Open that Bible you have and go before the presence of God, where there is joy that satisfies.
