Are you hungry? That is the question for the day! I have two scenarios for you this morning:

Scenario 1: You just finished a great meal! It was one of your favorites. You ate until you were content and that means there is no room for anything else. All of a sudden, someone walks into the room with Marble Slab ice cream!! They offer it to you, and although it looks so good and you know the taste of it will be so sweet, you just can't because you are full. You are satisfied.

Scenario 2: You have worked all day and just now realize that you have gone the whole time without breakfast or lunch! You walk into the kitchen at home from a full day's worth of work and open the cupboard. You are so hungry you tell yourself that you will eat the first thing you see. Upon opening the cupboard you reach in and grab the flour and just start eating it. You know that there could be other things you should be eating but you don't care...you're hungry and anything will do.

Silly illustration...and I am pretty sure none of you have done scenario 2...at least I hope not. But as silly as this illustration is, you may have done scenario 2 in your spiritual life.

Proverbs 27:7 The full soul loatheth (hateth) an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.

After the two scenarios, I do not think this verse needs explaining. The satisfied soul is content and not even tempted with sweet things. The hungry soul will grab anything to satisfy, regardless if it is healthy or not.

Psalm 107:9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

Application: If we are not being filled with the Lord and His Word daily, then we will run to anything for satisfaction, whether it is bitter or sweet. Fill your soul with what is truly satisfying and even the sweet things of the world will not tempt you.
