The Love of God

Written by: Mrs. Prusak

I love watching our mother hen as she takes care of her brood of chicks. Wherever she goes they follow. When she changes her clucking sound, just ever so slightly, they all come running to see what food she has found. When she senses danger, she calls to them and they immediately come running. No questions asked, no hesitations. She does not hesitate to protect her chicks even at the risk of her own life. What a beautiful picture of a mother’s love and care for her children. And what a beautiful picture of God’s care and love for us!

In Matthew 23:37, Jesus says, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and ye would not.”

Jesus spoke these words to those who had already rejected him…to those who would soon have him crucified. He mourns for them as a parent would a child. In spite of all His loving pleas, He knew so many would continue to reject Him, yet He willingly went to the cross. As the phrase in “The Power of the Cross” says, “What a Love, what a cost!”

This powerful love that our Savior uses to draw us to Himself in salvation, He also uses to comfort, keep, and protect us as believers. Having a bad day? Go to the One who loves you the most. Going through a difficult trial? Go to the One who loves you the most. Everything going well? Go to the One that loves you the most. Spend time with Him, learn more about Him in His Word, and He will prepare you for the days that aren’t going so well.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19
