Planning for Today's Temptation

Written by: Pastor Andrew Starr

"I totally forgot about that...it snuck up on me."

Have you ever found yourselves saying those words? Maybe you said them today as you got to school and realized that over the weekend you totally forgot about that assignment that is due today. Or maybe you thought you had an afternoon to just relax and do nothing, but then you were reminded that your parents had plans or there was practice after school or you had an away game.

If we do not plan ahead, it is so easy for things to sneak up on us.

Even in the spiritual realm, there are things that can surprise us if we do not plan for them. Take for instance this verse:

Luke 22:40b Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

How many times do we get stuck in the same daily routine of life when BAAAAMMM!! Temptation pops up and we find ourselves choosing to give in to the area of sin that we are trying so hard to have victory over?

Christ tells us in Luke 22:40b that if you don't want temptation to take you by surprise, then you need to plan accordingly.

How can we plan for temptation?

The answer is found in that verse...pray.

So let me ask you this question...did you start your day in prayer? If so, that is an awesome way to start!! Let me be more specific...did you pray specifically for the Lord to protect you against Satan today? Did you pray that you would be ready and in the power of God's might to fight against the devil today? If not, then you haven't planned for temptation today.

Be careful...you are fighting against an adversary that is seeking for the teenager who is weak. He is seeking for the teenager that did not ask for strength today. He is seeking the exact moment that temptation will be a struggle for you. So prepare teens! Prepare each and every day of your life by praying! The Lord has the weapons...are you using them?
