I was just reading the other day about the new iPhone 16 pro max. The release date for this phone is potentially in September. This phone is rumored to have a 6.9 inch screen. The camera would have a 48 megapixel sensor (which is a huge jump from the 15). The price for this phone is $1,200+!!
Imagine you were to buy one of these phones when it launches! After all, what a great investment that would be. You will probably use it everyday, so you will need to buy a nice case and glass screen protector. Why would you do that? Because you value it!
92% of Americans own a smartphone. 48% of those Americans say they would not be able to live without their smartphone.
Seems like the smartphone is pretty valuable to people!
How much do you value your phone?
Let's change the question ever so slightly...
How much do you value the Word of God?
Long before smartphones surfaced on the earth, David made this statement in Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea than much fine gold...
If you look at the verses prior (vv. 7-9) to this statement you will see that David is talking about the Word of God.
Now, I think we would all agree that gold is extremely valuable! Is there any more valuable than gold? David thought so...
Much more valuable than gold, much more valuable than the phone in your hands, is the Word of God. Do you value it above all else? Where is your Bible right now? Where is your phone right now? It should be easy to test how much you value the Word of God by measuring time spent on other things over the Word. Maybe you use your phone to read God's Word...but is that Bible app the last to be opened?
So what if you value something else over the Word? How can I change my desire?
It all starts with the discipline to open up the Word.
The more you open up the Word and the more time spent in it, the more you will result in a cultivating love for the God of those words.
Here is the question for serious thought today:
How much will you value the Word of God?
