"Make Me Proud"

By: Pastor Starr

I remember when I was growing up and involved in many different sports, the words of my parents before games: "Son, make us proud". These words carried with me during the entirety of the contest. I wanted to do well. I wanted to come through in the clutch in my baseball games. I wanted to unleash in my basketball games. I wanted to do well, not so that I could boast about my results, but so that I could look at my parents at the end of the game and see that look; that look that said it all: "Son, we are so proud of you."

What were they trying to say? Were they trying to tell me that if I did well they would become proud and boastful? No...they were trying to tell me that when I excel, it makes them happy.

You understand that feeling? There is something awesome about having a parent being proud of you. Whether you are involved in sports, fine arts or any hobby of any kind, having your parents proud of you means the world.

But there is something that makes your parents rejoice even more than a good game, or a job well done at a fine arts competition.

Proverbs 27:11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad.

Becoming wise makes your parents happy and it makes your heavenly Father proud of you as well. Teens, become wise in the decisions you make, become wise in the thoughts that cross through your mind, become wise in the friends that you hang around, become wise in the things that you allow yourself to watch, become wise in the attitudes you have towards your authority.

I know the question you may be asking yourself right now..."Where do I obtain that type of wisdom?"

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally (generously) and upbraideth not (without reproach).

Isn't that awesome? I mean, did you really catch what God is saying to you? You can ask for wisdom at anytime from the Lord and He will GIVE it to you!

So why aren't we living wise lives? With wisdom at our very own finger tips, why is it that we still struggle with the friends we hang around? Or the choices that we make? Or the responses that we give to our parents/authority?

Simply put...if you are struggling in those areas, you haven't asked God to help.

You want to make your parents proud?

You want to make your heavenly Father proud? Ask for wisdom and walk in it.
