Prepare to Feed

Written by Pastor Starr

Have you ever stumbled upon a bird’s nest full of baby birds? I have, and most of the time I stumbled upon the nest because I heard the baby birds crying for food. Those little birds were dependent on their parents to bring them food that would satisfy them. Finally…the parent comes back with worms and little bugs in it’s beak and is able to quiet the hungry birds.

Behind those hungry birds are parents that are diligent and aware of the needs of their children.

Can you imagine what would happen if the parents just decided to go out to eat and not bring home anything for their children?? They would die of starvation.

Proverbs 10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

Around you are many mouths that are hungry. No, not physically hungry, although I am sure you can find those as well. The mouths that are hungry around you are spiritual mouths. Where might you find these hungry people? You will find them at youth group, school, work and even at home.

Solomon reminds us that we are to give diligence to our growth in the Lord through feeding on the Word of God. It is important for us to grow, and growth is dependent on nutrition.

We are not to stop with just feeding ourselves.

With so many hungry mouths around us, we are to feed ourselves so that we can grow and feed others around us.

The word “feed” that Solomon uses has the idea of a shepherd who guides, instructs, cares for and guards. You are that shepherd in the lives of those around you. They are counting on you.

So are you diligent in the Word? Are you aware of the spiritual needs of others? If so, your mouth will feed those around you. However, if you take no time to feed yourself, how can you expect to lead and guide others through the Word?

You have many spiritually hungry peers around you, will you feed them what you are learning? Or will you let them dry up spiritually?

Prepare your life to feed others!
