Keeping the Path Lit

By Pastor Starr

One night a motorist was run down by a train at a grade crossing. The old signal man in charge of the crossing had to appear in court. After a severe cross-examination, he was still unshaken. He said he had waved his lantern frantically, but all to no avail. The following day the superintendent of the line called him into his office. "You did wonderfully well yesterday, Tom," he said. "I was afraid at first that you might waver." "No, sir," replied Tom, "but I was afraid that old lawyer was going to ask me whether or not my lantern was lit!"—Sunday School Times.

Light is very important in life, especially when you are trying to navigate in the dark. No matter how well you know your room, if you get up in the middle of the night and try to walk through your room in the dark, there is always that fear of tripping over something. So what do we do? Many of us use the light on our phone or a flashlight.

This world in which we live in today is very dark morally. All around us we see people living for their own flesh instead of for God. The danger is the same in this spiritual sense. There is a danger of stumbling and tripping spiritually without a light.

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Just like you need a light to walk down a dark path, you also need a spiritual light to walk in this spiritually dark world. And according to this Psalm that light is the Word of God.

Do you wonder why you keep tripping and stumbling spiritually? It very well may be because you are not using your spiritual light (God's Word) to guide your way.

This is why it is so important to be in God's Word!
